About Alice Springs Inland Dragway
Alice Springs Inland Dragway (ASID) is one of Australia's most remote โ and most celebrated โ drag strips, set beside the Stuart Highway around 15 km south of Alice Springs, right alongside the start line of the famous Finke Desert Race. Opened in 2008 and built by local volunteers and businesses, it is run by the Central Australian Drag Racing Association (CADRA) and sanctioned by ANDRA. The strip is a full quarter-mile (400-metre) racing surface with a matching quarter-mile braking area, and at Test'n'Tune events members of the public can bring their own road car along and make passes down the strip themselves. It is best known for hosting the Desert Nationals and, since 2015, drag racing for the Red CentreNATS automotive festival โ watching serious drag racing against an outback Red Centre backdrop is a genuine bucket-list experience for petrolheads.
