About Gillman Speedway
Gillman Speedway is a purpose-built motorcycle speedway in the Adelaide suburb of Gillman, in the city's north. It is a spectator race venue, not a ride-it-yourself experience: you come to watch riders race 500cc solo machines and 1045cc sidecar outfits — brakeless bikes broadsliding around a tight 300-metre dirt oval at speeds up to 100 km/h. A typical meeting packs in around 35 races between roughly 7.30pm and 10.30pm, so there's near-constant action under lights. Terraced and banked viewing wraps almost the whole circuit, and an elevated VIP area on the outside of turn 3 lets up to 50 people watch from above. Run by former sidecar racer David Parker, it's an accessible, family-friendly night of close, old-school dirt-track bike racing.
